Valley Gigs: Clitheroe Torchlight Procession August 25th 2012

Valley Gigs was chosen by the council to organise the fun and festivities on the afternoon of Clitheroe’s Torchlight Procession. Castle Street in the centre of town was closed off to traffic and music and street entertainment were provided from mid-day until 5.00pm. The weather forecast for the day was atrocious and at the start of the afternoon the rain was coming down so hard we postponed the first band. However by 1.00pm there was a break in the cloud cover and things began to improve. An enthusiastic crowd filled the street and we started our show with local traditional folk group, Drop the Floor.

The full programme is listed below:

  • Drop the Floor, fast moving traditional Irish and Ceilidh Band
  • Dave Metcalf, local singer-songwriter
  • Hank Marvin Junior, guitar sensation 13 year old Reece from Bacup
  • Beat Based Conserve, lively local group performing their own material
  • Garage Band, Lancashire and traditional folk

Street entertainment was provided by Circus Fudge, who brought his two friends, Captain Cluelessthe world’s most stupid peg leg stilt pirate, and bumbling scarecrow Jack Straw. Union Jack the balloon man and juggler kept children happy at street level, whilst face painter Stephanie had queues all afternoon. A good time was had by all.

All this provided free to the public by Valley Gigs.
