Valley Gigs: StreetFest May 2011

Despite one or two heavy showers a great day was enjoyed by the crowds who came to Clitheroe to see the annual StreetFest and SheepFest.

The day began with busking on the street followed by a later busking session in the afternoon. The buskers were joined by dance sides from around the North West and even from across the Yorkshire border.

Decorated sheep done by pupils from schools across the Ribble Valley were on display on the way up to the Castle Keep where stallholders from local voluntary groups had an opportunity to talk to the public about their organisations.

The highlight of the day, however, was the famous sheep show from Norfolk. Stuart, the New Zealander in charge, put on three entertaining shows and rounded off the day with a sheep race. Great fun.

Music from local musicians was on until mid-evening in the New Inn.

The organisers, Valley Gigs, would like to thank all the sponsors including: Ribble Valley Borough Council, Clitheroe Town Council, The Arts Development Fund and local traders Alpes, Roy Porter, Hackings, Harrison and Kerr, Stuart Gradwell, Shackletons, Cowmans and the New Inn. We would also like to extend our thanks to all the volunteers and participants who helped make the day such a success.
